Emergency services were seen attending outside HMP Birmingham late on Thursday evening, with police vehicles observed at the prison with blue lights flashing.
Hmp birmingham, commenly referred to as ” winston green, has been the subject of extensive controversy over recent years follwing a major riot which resulted the private company g4s being relieved of their contact at the facility.

Video footage obtained by HMP Prisons Justice Group shows several West Midlands Police officers outside the prison during what appeared to be an emergency response in the late hours of Thursday night or the early hours of Friday morning. The footage shows police vehicles positioned outside the establishment with emergency lights activated.
The footage also appears to show police officers speaking with a prison officer outside the establishment during the incident. It is currently unclear what prompted the police presence.
HMP Birmingham is a large category B prison located in Winson Green and houses more than 1,000 prisoners. Police attendance at prisons can occur for a number of reasons, including serious incidents, medical emergencies, disturbances, or when officers are required to assist prison staff.
At this stage, no official statement has been released explaining the nature of the incident seen in the footage.
The Ministry of Justice has been approached for comment regarding the possible incident and whether their office has been notified or is investigating the matter.
